The area and its history
The region of the Akarnanika Mountains has been continuously inhabited since prehistoric times. Most of the city-states that made up the Acarnania community were located in the Akarnanika Mountains (Medeon, Torivia, Thyreion, Cecropia).
Ancient Torivia, located three (3) kilometers from our winery, is the oldest city-state of Aetolia-Akarnania with cyclopean walls and curved gates that are very well preserved to this day.
The access road (path) from the hinterland of Aitoloakarnania to the west coast (Mytikas – Kandyla) passed through the estate until the middle of the last century when the current highways were built.
In this area of the rugged northern side of Mount Boumistos with the virgin forest that survives to this day, the inhabitants of ancient Alyzia fled after being hunted when the city was captured and destroyed by the Dorians. The area, although mountainous, is only 12 kilometers from the beautiful beaches of the Ionian Sea (Mytikas).
The village of Kompoti or Persevos is built on a slope between Boumistos and the other Akarnanik peaks at an altitude of 400 meters. Persevos was the name of the location where the current village was built. According to tradition, he was named Persevos after a ruler named Persos.
